What is the difference between a three-year Florida Driving Record, seven-year Florida Driving Record and complete Florida driving report? Back to Top

A three-year Florida driving report and seven-year Florida driving report contains only infractions that have been adjudicated by the courts during that time frame. Example: If you have received a ticket and then attended a Florida driving school to have the points removed from your Florida Driving Record, those points and the infraction are considered "adjudication withheld" and will not appear on the three-year and seven-year Florida Driving Record. Non-moving violations will also appear on a three-year and seven-year Florida driving report. Insurance rates are most commonly based on a three-year Florida driving report. A complete Florida driving report contains all driving infractions and correspondences from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) to the Florida driver over the past 11 years, as well as infractions reported by other states. Serious infractions may remain longer than eleven years. A complete Florida driving report is the recommended report to check your Florida Driving Record for omissions or inaccuracies.

Why doesn't a recent ticket issued to me appear on my Florida driving record? Back to Top

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) driver license database of driving infractions is updated after the disposition of the ticket has been resolved. That means the information is reported to the DHSMV after the person has either paid the fine, gone to a Florida driving school, or a verdict is rendered on a contested or unpaid ticket. Florida law requires the law enforcement agency that issues a ticket to provide this information to the County Clerk of the Court within 5 working days; in turn the Clerk of the Court has 10 working days, FROM THE DATE OF DISPOSITION, to report this information to the DHSMV; then the DHSMV may take several days to input this data into their database. A non-contested ticket may take 30 - 60 days to appear on the DHSMV database. Contested and out-of-state tickets may take several months.

I received a ticket and went to school to avoid the points. Why does that not show up on my three-year or seven-year Florida driving record? Back to Top

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) three-year and seven-year Florida driving records only indicate infractions that are adjudicated (settled by a judge or court).

For example, if you had a Florida driving infraction, and paid the fine, your Florida Driving Record would indicate the date of DISPOSITION of the ticket by the courts and the number of points assessed. If however, you received a ticket and went to a Florida driving school, then NO points were assessed (Adjudication Withheld), your three-year and seven-year Florida Driving Record will look clean.

Non-moving violations generally carry zero points, but usually appear on your Florida Driving Record because they are adjudicated.
